Professor and Researcher
Being professor at Post Grad Courses
PUCRS Online is one of the most successful online Post-Graduation courses in Brazil. It is a partnership with Uol EdTech the biggest company in the field in my country. The courses have disciplines with two professors each. One is a visiting professor and the other is from PUCRS. I've been teaching different disciplines since 2018. In this section you can see some trailers and understand how I created each class. Grab the popcorn!
User Experience: Design and Beyond course (2021)
Discipline: UX and Ubiquity
Visiting professor: Paulo Melo
Total class hours: 6 hours (Paulo Melo) and 3 hours (me).
Short description: Understanding the concepts of “experience” and “user” in a ubiquitous context. Reflection on the evolution of UX and personal technology and the Internet of Things. Introduction to the elements that make up the Smart Cities. Discussion of cross-platform UX techniques.
Trailer (with English subtitles):
After one meeting with the visitor professor, we aligned the contents that we would talk about in our classes. Usually the visitor's classes come first, and the PUCRS professor after. Since Melo's background was more industry-oriented, his topics were Ubiquity and UX - emergent technologies, Internet of Things, Virtual Assistants, UX and multiplatform.
I focused my classes bringing a historical background of Internet evolution since its beginning, and how we evolved to an ubiquitous environment. I also brought the impact of Convergence Culture and Collective Intelligence (Henry Jenkins' theories). At the end of the class, I showed some examples of UX innovations in ubiquitous contexts, such as BCI (Brain-Computer Interface), VR and AR and so on. I also had to create a test for the students to evaluate their understanding at the end of the discipline.
User Experience: Design and Beyond course (2021)
Discipline: UX Writing
Visiting professor: Bruno Rodrigues
Total class hours: 6 hours (Bruno Rodrigues) and 3 hours (me).
Short description: Understanding of UX writing principles: semantics, microwriting, information architecture. Guidance on writing, reviewing and validating content. Writing guide. UX Writing Flow.
Trailer (with English subtitles):
Just like the first one, the visiting professor and me aligned the contents that we would talk about in our classes. Rodrigues is the most renowed professionals in UX Writing in Brazil, and he brought the concepts of Copywriting, webwriting, UX Writing, and Tech Writing; Mobile content production in UX Writing, Semantics, and Information Architecture.
My classes were degined to show how consumer behavior, branding and brand personas can be applied to UX Writing. The main objective was to wrap up Rodrigues's class with marketing and branding concepts. I also brought Techniques for UX Writing, such as Torrey Podmajersky's Conversational Model. I also had to create a test for the students to evaluate their understanding at the end of the discipline.
AME: The Modern Education (2020)
Discipline: Holywood meets Harvard: new media and storytelling in education
Visiting professor: Wilson Marchionatti
Total class hours: 6 hours (Wilson Marchionatti) and 3 hours (me).
Short description: Media, entertainment, humor, and audiovisual tools for education. Generation of engaging and attractive content for an avant-garde education. Pleasant learning and everyday life.
Trailer (with English subtitles):
Marchionatti is the Director of Uol Edtech, and has created the PUCRS Online courses. His expertise in edutainment directed him towards contents like Convergence Culture and the opportunities and needs in edutainment for professors.
We aligned the content and I talked about Storytelling principles for education, based in Robert Mackee and Joseph Campbells theories. I also brought Transmedia Storytelling techniques applied to teaching, educational game design and some "MacGyver-like" ways to create interactive and entertaining classes with little to none resources. As the other disciplines, I had to create a test for the students.
